You Probably Don't Know About These Tracks...

...but this is what I've been listening to lately.

Arthur Russell - Arm Around You
Visionary. NUFF SAID. Late 80s song was written. Highly suggest his album World of Echo. Very experimental and he has some beautiful sounds on there.

Ralph Stanley - Sure 'Nuff N' Yes I Do
Most FAV Beefheart cover on the soundtrack to the move Lawless. Pretty great soundtrack actually. Great track though. Play here.

Cat Power - Still In Love
Another cover. My favorite Cat Power song (next to Ruin) off of (I believe) her first LP Myra Lee. She sings this song like Thom Yorke would. I feel like this song feels more meaningful coming from a woman than a man. Hank Williams song.

The White Stripes - Jolene
And another cover. Again this song feels really different coming from White's mouth.

PJ Harvey - Ecstasy
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. Just go take a bite out of Rid of Me. It couples nicely with a side of used hypodermic needles and a glass of battery acid.

Sarah Vaughan - Why Can't I?
"Should girls be good girls? I think they should."

Flake Music - Spanway Hits
Before The Shins were The Shins they were Flake Music. Old single from their only album When You Land Here, It's Time To Leave. You can hear the Built to Spill influences all over the track, but Mercer's originality is there too. It's very evident in the lyrics. Cutting ties...far apart we are...etc.

The World Is A Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid To Die - Heartbeat In The Brain
#mouthful. Pretty cool new band TWIABP&IANLATD. Sounds like early Modest Mouse with some Cymbals Eat Guitars in there as well. A little tid bit of 3rd Planet riff-ige in there as well. Cool track, decent album.
