Father John Misty (Sounds Like)

Father John Misty (J. Tillman from Fleet Foxes) got his album Fear Fun up to number 2 on Paste's 50 Best Albums of 2012. I don't entirely agree with the list or the placement of the album but...not my problem. Anyway, this Bon Iver wannabee band copped not just Bon Iver's sound, but a good hook from Jeff Buckley's Dream Brother. Father John's song Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings takes that tasty little tid bit and copies it to the key. (100th post yay)

  1. I really don't think they are that similar, and I was a huge fan of jeff buckley and knew some of the guys he played with in NY in the late 90's. I think what Tillman is doing is pretty cool and original. The guitar melody from dream brother is similar to the vocal melody of hollywood cemetery but not that much more similar than a million rock tunes are to a million other tunes. Rock and the basic chord changes it uses come from a limited palette and many songs are legitimately influenced by other songs without being ripoffs....and, btw...Father John Misty is a lot more memorable than Bon Iver.
